Justice of the peace, president of the Hospital of the Holy Spirit, state councillor, and director of the Department of Industry and Arts at the Commission of Internal Affairs of the Kingdom of Poland. He was a member of the civic committee established in February 1861 in response to the Russian army's bloody suppression of a patriotic demonstration on Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw. He was part of the enlarged second City Delegation of 24 members (along with his brother Jakub), formed after the events of spring 1861. The tombstone was made by Jakub Tatarkiewicz, who worked for the Potockis and was a highly regarded pupil of Thorvaldsen, the foremost sculptor of the Neoclassical period. The woman, leaning against a flower-wreathed urn and dressed in ancient robes, is modelled on Thorvaldsen's figure of Polonia from the monument to Marshal Małachowski, which can be viewed and compared with it at the Archcathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Warsaw.
